Our Meetings
- "Overcoming Stress", presented by psychologist Nurhayat Kemerli at the head office of the foundation. It continued 18 hours and had great attraction.
- "Ayurveda (Healthy Life)" was presented by Muammer Karakaş M.D. on the 8th Feb. 2001 and had a lot of participants.
- "NGOs and Social Activities" presented by Onur Kovancı both as a lecture and in-service training on the 15th Feb. 2001 was enriched by participation of our personnel and comprehensive contributions of Seyhan Erdoğdu.

Our Contributions:
- Our foundation is invited to the studies organized as a preparation for 8th Five-years Development Plan carried out by the State Planning Organization. Prof. Gürhan Fişek represented our foundation at the meetings and he was elected as chairman of "Occupational Health and Safety Subcommittee" one the four subcommittees.
- Working children and organization representatives participating "Global walk against child labor" visited our unit at İstanbul, Yeni Bosna at April 18, 2000. Tayyar Bakış, M.D. informed them about our studies.
- We participated in the Occupational Health and Safety panel at Van, May 6 2000 organized by Confederation of HAK-İş concerning the week of Occupational Health and Safety.
- Prof. Gürhan Fişek represented our foundation as chairman at the symposium "Is child rights human rights?" organized by The British Council at June 22, 2000. Participated also Oya Fişek, U.Jale Şengül and Mürşide Mahmutoğlu representing our foundation.
- Various activities are organized and participated concerning the 10th anniversary of Prof. Nusret Fişek's death.
- Topics such as "Position of Health in Turkey", "Responsibility in being a Public Health Specialist in Turkey" and "Specialization in Public Health" were discussed with the Turkish Medical Association and the Association of Public Health Specialists.
- "Health of the Republic" was the topic of the conference organized at the Hacettepe University. Prof. Hüsnü Göksel impressed the participants with his very satisfying lecture broadening one's horizon.
- At the Peace Concert organized by Gazi University G.Elif Büyükkayıkçı and Armağan Erman presented a nice performance with their violin and piano. They interpreted the pieces of N. Clerambault, F.M.Veracini, F.Chopin, A.Dvorak and Arif Ünal.
- Our project "Townee House" was included at the "Projects Booklet", also Oya Fişek and Didem Kamoy had presentations at the workshops at the 1st Istanbul General Assembly of Child (June 27-29,2001 Istanbul) organized by Foundation of Istanbul Children established by the contribution of Governorship of Istanbul.
- 10th National Congress of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry was carried out in Muğla, Sarıgerme. Prof. Gürhan Fişek took part at the panel "Working Children" as a lecturer at May 6, 2000.
- We joined the preparations carried out for "Week and Congress of Occupational Health and Safety" organized by Head Office of Worker Health, Ministry of Labor and Social Security.
- Two articles about our foundation and our projects concerning working children are published at the periodic "Working Child" published by the Working Children Office of the Labor Head Office of Ministry of Labor and Social Security.
Our participations
- Our foundation is invited to the meeting of the Consultative Committee organized by the Working Children Department of Labor Head Office of Ministry of Labor and Social Security at March 9 and July 19, 2000.
- At April 22, 2000 we participated the opening of "Job-site common health unit and Office of the Working Children" in Pendik Industrial Region organized by TİSK; the Turkish Confederation of Labor Union and carried out in collaboration with our foundation. Pendik Güzelleştirme and Yaşatma Derneği honored us with a plate.
- In the name of Working Children Science and Action Center of Fişek Institute, Azime Bilgiç, M.D. participated in the meeting organized by Ministry of Labor and Social Security in Denizli. After the meeting the studies carried out were described and a field visit was organized.
- The Congress was held at 9-12 September 2000, and organized at the Trinity College by European Women Health Institute, head office in Dublin. Regional leaders, supervisors and project directors concerning woman and child health of European Community and WHO were also present as well as 250-300 participants from universities and NGOs of various countries particularly from European Community. 27 posters were present. Conferences including 18 reports were carried out. There were also meetings concerning six different subjects. Yasemin Günay M.D., our volunteer, presented two posters with titles "Physical Violence Against Women" and "Gender Inequity in Working Adolescents & Searches for Solutions in Girls Point of View".
- Nov. 25 2000, one-day workshop about "Adjustment of the Working Standards at Ready Made Clothing Business" was held in collaboration by ILO, The Prince of Wales Business Leaders Forum, Counsellorship of Foreign Trade and İstanbul Textile and Ready-made Clothing Exporters' Association.
- We participated in two meetings of NGOs organized by the Governorship of Ankara with the presidency of Vedat Müftüoğlu the vice-governor at Jan. 11, 2001.
- We participated in the meeting where institutions that carried out the project ILO/IPEC concerning working children are invited. It was organized by the American Embassy and held at Sheraton Hotel. American Senator Tom Harkin was also present.
- We were invited to the celebration organized by the Ministry without Portfolio of Human Rights at Grand Hotel Ankara. Oya Fişek, Mürşide Mahmutoğlu and A.Gürhan Fişek represented our foundation and made a representative speech in the name of our foundation.
- We participated in the "Meksa Route from 2001 to 2003" organized by Mesleki Eğitim ve Küçük Sanayi Destekleme Vakfı (MEKSA) (Foundation of Occupational Education and Small Scale Industry Support) at March 1 2000. At this meeting, current deadlocks of the NGOs with actions based upon production such as MEKSA were discussed.
Visits:
- Through the agency of the American Embassy, we entertained two groups intended to examine our workshops at our head-office and minor industrial regions: American Customs Management and American Congress Library. Main interest of the first group was child labor. Second group was interested in occupational health and safety, and our publications. We informed them about our studies and actions, and exchanged of views.
- Our head-office at Kızılay, Ankara and establishments in the East Industrial Region in İstanbul Yenibosna were visited by The Prince of Wales Business Leaders Forum Regional Chief, and project leaders who were interested in our studies. They were informed about our studies and our point of view concerning child labor. Their main interests were child labor, occupational health and safety.
- Prof. Tansev Mıhçıoğlu, head of Maltepe Rotary Club and future head Serdar Erkoca visited our head office to seek for the means of support and collaboration.
- Recently elected managers of the Labor Inspectors Association visited our head office and underlined the importance of our collaboration.
Our fairs
Fair organization and participation are of great importance in our activities. This activity not only provides financial support but also plays an important role in our presentation and communication with other NGOs. It is also a great opportunity for demonstration of our work and organization discipline and wide access.

- Jan 15-26 2001 Fair at The Education and Social Activity Center of Social Security institution at Kavaklıdere both attracted great attention locally and presented at the Ankara page of Hürriyet, a very famous Turkish newspaper.
- March 15-16, 2001: Fair at the National Library also had an intense participation of both the visitors as potential buyers and the artists intending to exhibit their handicrafts.

The NGOs that we have invited to our fairs call us as a guest to theirs. Various organizations are interested in our activities and foundation, and support us by contribution and inviting to their fairs.

Contributions:
- TISK provided resource for our projects "Life Support for Young Girls" and "Holiday Facilities for Working Children". After our significant contribution for TISK last year this has been a very good example of organizational collaboration.
ILO/IPEC finally contributed to our studies carried out in the Minor Industrial Region in Pendik in collaboration with Working Children Office established by TISK concerning the project ILO/IPEC. So are supported our studies carried out in the Pendik Industrial Region since April 2001.
Project Studies:
- Our most important activity at May was the health check concerning the apprentices. 250 apprentices were examined considering respiratory diseases. Respiratory function tests were performed. The correlation between their complaints and work and life conditions were investigated. Our Executive Committee members Jale Şengül and Mürşide Mahmutoğlu carried out an intensive group study. We thank to Ass. Prof. Şeref Özkara, M.D., and Metin Tarhan M.D. from Atatürk Chest Diseases Hospital and F.Ahmet Atak, Şebnem Tüzün Bayrak, Ayça Çevik, Altar Gökçimen, V.Gökçe İnce, Ali Konak, Funda Kılıç, Evrim Topkaya, the 4th year students of Labor Economy and Industrial Relations of the Ankara University Political Sciences Faculty.
Ostim, Sincan Organized Industrial Region (Ankara) and the East Industrial Region (Istanbul) are the centers where Fişek Institute carries out its model studies about job-site common health unit. "Mobile Clinics" that we initiated first for small- scale industrial jobsites, continue to visit work places and the children working there. We also started the health check 2000-2001 carried out by Tayyar Bakış, M.D. at Apprenticeship Education Center.
Studies of The Working Children Office, constituted by TİSK a year ago in the Small Scale Industrial Region in Pendik also continue this year. Ass. Prof. Nezih Varol carried out the activities successfully. Opening of the "Small scale job-site common health unit" at April 22, 2000 was the most important improvement also securing the continuity of the project. Since a long time workers, employers and apprentices were waiting for this job-site common health unit which will be carried out by our Foundation with its proven experience in this field. After a medical employee Tayyar Bakış M.D. and Anday Tatar, M.D., our two physicians also started working. This study was mainly financed by our foundation.
"Government Organizations of GAP (the Project of Southeast Anatolia) from Batman to Gaziantep": Association of Artists and Authors Diyarbakır (DİSED) had undertaken the local relations and preparations at this important study requested by the GAP administration and carried out by our foundation. This study not only let us demonstrate our experience of almost 40 years as community organizer and to examine the collaboration of these organizations but also resulted in significant improvements both for us and some other local government organizations. The report of this successfully completed study is also shown at our web page.
"Life Support for Working Girls" and "Summer Holiday for Apprentices": Both study aims determination of the needs and give a guide to our further studies about this subjects. A group pf the 4th year students of Labor Economy and Industrial Relations of the Ankara University Political Sciences Faculty who was interested in "working children" also participated in. Point of view and suggestions of the working children will be effective on the review of future plans.

- Action collaboration aimed at working children with TİSK: The project of job-site common health unit and Office of the Working Children aiming at the children in the Pendik Small Scale Industrial Region in Istanbul goes on.
"Çalışma Ortamı"(Periodical of "Working Environment"):
- Libraries Head Office, Ministry of Culture agreed on to buy the periodicals between January and December 2000 for 500 libraries.
- Strengthened its place with its 54th issue. Our periodical is not only a good source for the communities concerning labor but covers new expectations as well. Its publication underlined the need of such periodicals about more thoroughly studies about occupational health and safety, and child labor.
The research and development studies on occupational health and safety:
The research and development group formed in order to improve our studies about occupational health and safety keeps on working. Prof. İsmail Topuzoğlu, Prof. A.Gürhan Fişek, Chemistry Engineer Mustafa Taşyürek, Machine Engineer Gürbüz Yılmaz, Didem Kamoy and H. Doruk Fişek participates in the meetings. Studies aim at connecting the groups or individuals interested in this subject, sharing and spreading the information all through the country. Therefore, a web page consisting various articles and visual material to be reviewed daily, is under construction: www.isguvenligi.net
Educational studies:
- Many business enterprises are interested in our training sessions about occupational health and safety. Two seminars of 30 hours were organized at Temsa/Otomotiv Adana in 2000. Technical, security staff and managers were participated in our seminars were remarked with its enriched visual material and practical samples.
Yiğit Akü (Ankara); Saide Tekstil, ZOE Tekstil (Istanbul) are some of the medium scale enterprises that profits our educational activities with crowded participation of workers. Correlation of the interest in our monthly meetings with the development of the enterprise should be an example to many others.
- "First-aid Rescue Course" and "Fire Seminars" were the most popular and exciting courses organized at our units in Ostim, Sincan Industrial Region in Ankara and the East Industrial Region in Istanbul. Nezih Varol M.D., Mustafa Taşyürek, Chemistry Engineer, Gürbüz Yılmaz, Machine Engineer carries out these activities with extreme devotion.
- Planned also is repetition of the seminar titled "Overcoming stress" given by Nurhayat Kemerli at the head office and improving towards "human relations" and "overcoming anger" etc.
Relations with media:
- Yasemin Günay M.D., professor at Osmangazi University Forensic Medicine Department, presented our foundation at a local TV in Eskişehir.
- Prof. Dr. A.Gürhan Fişek talked about our health unit and its services at the presentation of the East Industrial Region at the program "Söz Esnafın" about tradesman carried out by Adnan Ergül at Flash TV.
- Various press and broadcasting news mentions the studies carried out in Pendik in collaboration with TİSK and emphasizes the role of our foundation.
- Işık Kansu published quotations and interpretations at her page corner "Ankara Kulisi" on account of an article at the Working Environment. (Jan 1, 2001 Cumhuriyet)
- We participated in various programs about working children, occupational health and safety, and social security at TRT Radio Ankara. Calls from diverse parts of Turkey gave us hope after the presentation of our studies and point of view particularly concerning working girls by Nurhayat Kemerli and A. Gürhan Fişek.
- Child labor and our studies are pointed out at Işık TV.
- Announcement and news about the activities that we organized at the Prof.Dr.Nusret H. Fişek Science and Art Medium at our head office are begun to take place in the newspapers such as Hürriyet and Cumhuriyet and in periodicals about the cultural activities in Ankara.

- We aim to open new web pages providing diversity of subjects, presentation; and a larger circle of acquaintances.
www.isguvenligi.net : A web page with news and articles about occupational health and safety, also mailing and net meeting will be available.
www.fisek.com.tr : consists of informatics, health, security, foundation, far land. It is one of the most frequently visited pages particularly due to its daily reviewed news about informatics.
www.dagkecisi.com : Tales of success will take part at this page called mountain goat which symbolized freedom and summits. Nowadays, selfishness and public enemies are proved not to be an advantage in our country. We want to show the alternatives of failure. At this page various leaders and successful NGOs will be presented as well as Fişek Foundation as a tale of success itself.
Statistics of our web page: The entries can be monitored by statistics. www.fisek.org had 39-71 visitors daily since September. Total count till 23rd of March was 860. Most frequently visited parts are those mainly consisted of images. Approximately one thirds of these visitors are foreigners particularly from USA, Canada, England, India and Japan. There has been 120 visitors who found our web site by search engines. Keywords were "child labor" in 76 cases and "Child labor in Asia" in five. 80% of them preferred English web site. www.fisek.com.tr had 212-244 visitors daily. (We had 4681 visitors between 1 and 22 March.) As this web site has only a Turkish web page, there is no international visitors. Most of the visitors are interested in pages about informatics. Page about "Occupational health and safety" had a percentage of 2% in March.
- Our foundation and activities are presented in various foreign web pages such as www.hse.uk.gov. Our introduction at this page was translated into English by Ebru Erdem from Stanford University who also reached us by internet. We thank her for her contribution.
